TOURNAMENT HEAT PRECAUTIONS.
As you all are aware of by now it will be a warm one this
weekend. While it is not uncommon for
kids to play soccer in high temperatures, it is important to take a few
precautions. We have instructed the
referees to keep an eye on the kid’s health and to offer extra water
breaks.
We are fortunate to be in Irvine with a cooler climate than
some of the inland locations. For this
tournament all games are played on Irvine City Fields which are all grass
fields. No turf fields used which become
very hot.
It is important that teams also:
Make sure the kids have and apply plenty of sun block.
Make sure that you have more than enough water for all
players.
One of my favorite tips during hot games is to have multiple
small towels soaked in ice water to give the kids to put on their heads during
breaks. They love it…I love it…
Most important is to keep your eye on the kids to make sure
they are ok and to rotate your players as needed. If a child is dizzy or not feeling well sit
them out.
Don’t forget your canopies or any other forms of shade.
All the best to all teams!
